Excellent facilities, experienced staff

Karaka Learning Centre has been providing a stimulating environment where young children are given a head start to a life of achievement since 1986.  Excellent facilities, experienced staff and proven methodologies combine to give our children confidence and a competitive advantage for school.

The proven academic record at Karaka Learning Centre is a key to our success. Now in their early twenties, many of our ex-pupils have achieved outstanding results as they have progressed through their formal education - results we believe can be attributed in part to the support, encouragement and solid grounding received in the formative years at Karaka Learning Center.

Above all, we understand that the key to early learning is to make it enjoyable. The most common sound you'll hear at Karaka Learning Centre is laughter - children having fun!

Karaka Learning Centre has a total of 6 centres specializing in 3 different age groups of children. In this way each child experiences age appropriate activities and can confidently move to the next centre whilst remaining in familiar surroundings.

  • 1 Baby Centre (3 months-2.5years) *Staff/child ratio of 1-4
  • 1 Toddler Centre (2 - 3. 5years) *Staff/child ratio of 1-7
  • 4 Preschool Centres (3-6years) *Staff/child ratio of 1-8   (Excluding break times)

Building literacy and numeracy skills is an essential element of our daily routine at Karaka Learning Centre. Our preschoolers are well used to working with exercise books in table situations before they leave our care. This gives them a terrific advantage when they move on to school.

A priority is the development of children's social skills, self-confidence and care of the environment. As well as learning to be articulate and how to help themselves, children at KLC are taught to be respectful of others - a quality that will serve them well throughout their lives.

  • We cater for children between 7.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
  • Children may be enrolled for between 2 - 5 days per week. Children find it easier to settle and form bonds with the educators if they are enrolled 2 or more days, as this gives time for your child to get know the routines, peers and educators.  Visits are a must, as this also prepares the child and family to become familiar with the educators, children, environment  and feel comfortable with knowing what to do an expect on your child's first day.

Karaka Learning Centre occupies a large safe 2.85 hectare site situated in beautiful semi-rural Karaka with easy access to Auckland's Southern Motorway.

Studies worldwide have shown that one of the most effective activities for building confidence in young children is learning to swim. As well as promoting co-ordination and the obvious element of safety, regular swimming provides excellent exercise and fun for all youngsters. From October through to May, all toilet-trained children have the opportunity to swim in both our 6 x 8 metre heated indoor pools on a daily basis. Closely supervised, all children are encouraged to improve their water confidence and skills. We are particularly proud of the extra dimension swimming brings to our overall 'package' of early learning facilities.

We are also proud to offer an environment where children have the opportunity to have close encounters with a variety of farm animals on our property. Pig, sheep, goat, guinue pigs, rabbits (wild and domestic), pukekos, ducks and a variety of chooks.
